Journal of Digital Life & Learning, Assistant Editor, 2020-2022
This position involved receiving author submissions to the journal, co-ordinating timely and blinded reviews of the manuscripts, corresponding with the authors at each stage of the revision process, copyediting accepted manuscripts in the journal's template and publishing final PDF versions on the journal's website.
DELL Canada Girls With Game, Mentor, 2020
This position involved mentoring a team of girls in British Columbia, virtually. For this, I uploaded a personal video to DELL Canada’s Flipgrid account detailing my journey into the STEM/STEAM field for the girls to watch. I also did a presentation and a question/answer session with the girls to provide them with some insight into how one might become involved in STEM/STEAM, the various pathways in and what I do as a lecturer and research assistant/project manager as it relates to STEAM.
Digital Global Challenge, Mentor, Oct. 2020
This position involved mentoring two teams of students in a global education challenge. I helped guide the students as they conceptualized and designed prototypes responding to real world education challenges, like the digital divide in developing countries and under-served communities. I was also involved as a marker in the challenge.
B.Ed. Alternative Practicum Placement, Mentor, June-Sept. 2020
This position involved the mentorship of eight B.Ed. students in an alternative, online practicum placement during the COVID-19 pandemic. I worked with the students to develop their understanding of makerspaces and pedagogies and they, in turn, helped lead professional learning sessions and create virtual maker activities and resources for teachers.
B.Ed. Alternative Internship Program, Mentor, Oct. 2020
This position, similar to the alternative practicum placement, involved the mentorship of a small group of B.Ed. students (five) as they engaged in their own inquiry-based projects. Each student who chose to complete their internship with our research lab had a focus on makerspaces, pedagogies and digital tools.
M.A. student mentorship, 2018-2022
This position involved the mentorship of education students completing their M.A. degrees. I provided feedback and guidance to the students primarily in relation to theory, literature and data analysis techniques.
Faculty and Student Professional Learning, Mentor/Facilitator, 2014-2016
In this role, I acted as technology support for members of the faculty, sessional instructors and students. I organized various “Lunch and Learn” tech sessions, where new tech tools (based around a theme, such as “digital storytelling”) were introduced. I also conferenced with and recommended various tech tools to instructors to facilitate engaging and relevant lessons and occasionally provided an in-class tech tools “booster” session, on request. For example, in one class, I presented how to use various website-building tools, so the students had some options for their program-required digital portfolio assignment.
